Cow Skulls

Cow Skulls

Skulls!  I think they’re cow skulls.  I always get the most challenging and interesting projects from Interior Designer, Joey Lasalle!  This one was no different!  I met him at my gallery and we went over many, many ideas.  There are plenty of mosaicked skulls out there.  But Joey insists he doesn’t want a typical glass mosaic with boring grout…he want’s crushed glass a-la-mary-hong!  We go over color choices, types of bling to use, and he tells me he wants the glass standing UP on the skull!  He wants them to look encrusted with glass and diamonds!  This is to be a “his-and-hers” set of skulls for his clients.

Wow!  I went home and sat them in my studio for a while.  It didn’t take me long to start work on them!  First I sanded down the wood plaques they were mounted to.  Then I primed, painted and glazed them to give them a more contemporary look.  Then I started laying out my bling and diamonds!  I started with the stronger elements, and added the crushed glass last.  These took a long time to complete, because I could only work on a small section at a time!  I had to glue every little thing down!  My daughter was fascinated by this process!  She helped me on the project, because I needed her to!  Her fingers are smaller than mine, and she has more patience than me!  When I was all done, I covered them with a coat of epoxy resin.  I absolutely LOVE the way they turned out!
