The Rhone Retreat and Ken Jourdan aka Heaven on Earth in the South of France. OMG! Where to start blabbing about the best part of this whole trip! The Rhone Retreat is owned by Ken Jourdan, a quintessential host, a patient French/English translator, a well traveled spirit, an amazing chef, a chief doer of everything, and the cherry on top….a 20 year veteran massage therapist! Really? Do people like this really exist? Yup…and he’s there waiting for you in Gaujac! His slice of heaven is located about 25 mins from Avignon. We flew into Paris and took the TGV (high speed) train to Avignon (3 hours and it went by quickly) We rented a car and drove to Ken’s. And the drive was pleasant because he met us at the train station so all we had to do was follow him! When we got to the gates of his palace, I mean compound, we all let out a little scream! It is so beautiful!!! And, so French! The main house is stunning and provincial and filled with an ecletic mix of everything. We met in there for all our meals, our planning, and to drink all that yummy wine! There are two spacious cottages on the property too and we filled those up. There was plenty of room for us to hang out in those but Ken was like a magnet and we all enjoyed talking with him and listening to his stories. And if you get homesick…you can talk to him about the Beaches of South Walton because his parents live in Seagrove Beach! And, he comes back here regularly to visit!
