Mary Hong is an award-winning and successful artist and entrepreneur on the Emerald Coast of Florida.
Having developed a devoted base of fans and followers, Mary opened her own gallery five years ago and added a new art-making studio two years ago that has piqued the interests of locals and visitors alike.
Originally from Wisconsin, Mary received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Post graduation launched her into an 18 year career as a flight attendant, mixing her passion for travel with art by free-lancing as a graphic artist in Kailua, Hawaii, her home for nearly 15 years.
Mary and her husband, a commercial airline pilot, relocated to the Emerald Coast in 2004 when she joined the Eglin Aero Club to complete her multi-engine commercial pilot’s rating before giving birth to her twins Kai and Rain in 2006. As her twins entered preschool, Mary went back into the art world, opening two thriving businesses in Grayton Beach, FL: Mary Hong Gallery and The Shard Shop.
Mary continually participates in art shows and fund raisers, teaches art workshops to children and adults, mentors local artists, and spends as much time as possible with her now 9 year old twins! Mary has developed a unique art form that combines paint and glass on canvas that is sold in eight states including seven galleries in Florida.
Her work has been featured in Atlanta Bridal, The Local Palette, The Chicago Tribune, Vie Magazine and on the cover of Coastal Lifestyle magazine and was recently highlighted on the Golf Channel’s Morning Show with Matt Ginella. Last year, John Richard, a high-end home furniture and accessories company, began producing giclee prints of her work that are now sold to retailers around the world in including Neiman Marcus and Horchow.
She is a member of the Cultural Arts Alliance, Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation, the Society of American Mosaic Artists, and was the recipient of the 2014 Artist of the Year award from the Walton County Tourist Development Council.
